Will Google SEO Agency Replace SEO Company?
SEO is an abbreviation for search engine optimisation, which is basically the process of optimising your site to obtain un-payed, or organic, traffic from the major search engines. SEO is an ever-increasing field of internet marketing, because websites need to compete with each other in order to remain highly ranked. This is usually done by adhering to certain principles, some of which will be discussed below. One of the most important areas of SEO is learning how to submit your site to all the major search engines. This is known as ‘ranking’. Ranking is determined by a number of different factors, the primary one being how useful your site is to your targeted audience.
The latest SEO community is abuzz with the idea of Google’s latest update to their algorithm, known as the Panda and Penguin updates. The new algorithms were introduced to combat over-optimisation (the practice of webmasters creating pages solely for the purpose of boosting SEO), and are aimed at creating more authoritative sites in the search results. This process has had a dramatic effect on the different areas of SEO, although it has had little effect on the most popular SEO strategies such as link building and content writing.
As the algorithm updates became effective, many webmasters noticed their websites becoming less noticeable in the search results. In fact, some found that their pages had virtually disappeared from the initial results. These changes are due to Google focusing more on the user experience in order to provide better search results. To do this, Google has adopted a new system whereby the search results are ‘weighted’ or determined by how they are presented to the user. This is a very different approach from the older, SEO-focused SEO methods, where keywords were the determining factor for high rankings.
The reason SEO has been affected by these recent changes is because it concentrates too much on the algorithms used by search engines. According to Matt Cutts, Google’s Senior SEO Product Manager, the new system “simplifies things a bit”. Google wants users to be able to find what they need when looking for particular information and not just rely on the search engines to do all the work for them. Although Google is not introducing any other kind of algorithm change, it is clear that Google is attempting to create a more user-friendly environment for searching.
SEO has also been hit by the Panda update in a somewhat negative way. Google introduced this update in order to reduce spam content by removing low quality links, and also to improve the experience of users searching for particular information. However, many SEO experts have questioned how this update will affect SEO. Google has cited two main issues with the update: the increased spam content and the reduced quality links. Whilst it may be true that both of these issues hurt SEO, it is likely that both problems are temporary.
Google’s Senior SEO Product Manager Eric Schmidt spoke about how Google aims to continue to improve its algorithms in future. He also discussed how Google has always prioritised content above other elements when determining ranking. As long as the updates introduced by Google continue to focus on improving the experience for users searching for relevant content, it is likely that SEO will only become more reliant upon the algorithm.
With Google’s current ranking system, Google has a number of factors which play a part in determining where a page is placed. These include the quality of the content (along with the title and Meta description), the links which have been placed within the body of the text (this is called anchor text), the pages content type, the pages link structure, and lastly, the link popularity. If any of these factors change then it can have a major effect on the rankings of a page. Therefore, Google is unlikely to introduce any other algorithm change that will directly affect the ranking of a website.
Although Google is not expected to introduce any other algorithm changes which will directly benefit SEO, they have made changes in the way they calculate the SERPs. Currently, Google focuses more on how long a web page has been on the Internet, rather than the number of links which have been placed into the text or within the html coding of the site. The update has been designed to make it more difficult for sites to stay ahead of the competition through SEO. Google’s SEO team also confirmed that they are working on an improved ranking algorithm in the future. However, it is too early to speculate what this new formula will be. What we do know is that the battle between Google SEO Agency has just began.
