It’s difficult to say what the future holds for SEO. SEO experts speculate that it’s inevitable that keywords will become more competitive thanks to new technologies such as automatic ranking systems. Experts also believe that over the next two or three years, the trend will move toward organic searches, meaning that the web will gather information about what people are searching for instead of having them search for keywords. This may be good news for SEO providers, but it could spell trouble for those who want to earn a lot of money from the use of SEO in their marketing campaigns.
According to an April 2021 survey by the Association of Internet Technologists (AIT), organic search traffic dropped 4% in 2021. However, the drop was less than expected due to a number of internet search engine updates that occurred at the same time. Most SEO experts speculate that the decreases were caused by changing user preferences and changing search engine trends. The results of these changes were less drastic in some countries such as the United Kingdom, but overall they were very positive for SEO.
According to another survey conducted by Forrester Research, a drop of about 20% was seen in search engine traffic for keywords such as “appliance repair”, “home repair”, “electrical installation” and “house cleaning”. These keywords are currently experiencing fewer searches than they did in 2021. On the other hand, the top search engine rankings for these keywords saw an increase. “Appliance repair” experienced a slight increase, while “electrical installation” saw a marked increase in search volume. These trends could mean that SEO will soon undergo a shift towards organic listings.
Experts have also noticed certain trends in how SEO is being used on the web. The most common is the use of long tail keywords. Many SEO consultants choose to work with keywords that are three to five words in length and use them throughout their content so that they rank well with the search engines. However, longer tails are not always successful as many times, it does not make sense to rank for a keyword that only gets searched once or twice per month.
Another SEO technique used is to include meta description tags. Meta description tags are only relevant to the page being displayed but are otherwise invisible to the viewers of the page. They provide some information to the readers of the page so that they know what the page is about. However, meta-descriptions are not directly associated with search engine ranking. These tags are actually used to help the search engines index pages in their databases. In other words, they are not directly affecting SEO rankings.
A great way to think about SEO and its effect on SEO rankings is to think about how you would feel if someone was coming up to you and telling you about a new product you might want. You might be interested, but you probably wouldn’t say “oh yeah, I want that”. It would take you a few seconds to realize that the salesperson probably isn’t using you as an affiliate to sell him the product. The same thing happens with SEO and search engines, it really doesn’t matter how many backlinks the SEO produces or the amount of search engine ranking, a good SEO will never have any direct impact on your website’s ranking, but it can indirectly lead to a better ranking.
