SEO stands for search engine optimization. In short, it signifies the act of enhancing your website’s visibility for desired keywords on major search engines to improve its ranking for those searches. Inbound links, which Google deems to be significant, are the primary factors on which Google measures a page’s importance. Google has recently implemented two new features into its ranking algorithm. The first is the keyword difficulty baseline, or CTR. Google has identified these low-pages as “spam sites” and has begun to implement stricter penalties on pages that are considered spam. One of these penalties is the removal of the entire meta description, which can result in loss of ranking for a site.
To make things worse, this penalty was not a one hundred percent penalty. Google started charging one cent per keyword difficulty point, up from the one hundred and twenty fee they began charging in April. While it may be true that one hundred keyword difficulties is more difficult to rank for than one hundred keywords without any SEO work, this change was implemented so that Google would have more credibility in the eyes of the search engines. Google also claims to have made an effort to stop “farming method” practices in which certain webmasters submit dozens of versions of the same keyword to the same sites in order to have higher rankings.
While it is true that SEO professionals understand and execute a fair amount of work in optimizing a single webpage, the real trick is making sure that every page on the site is optimized effectively for the search engine. A great deal of time and energy is put into creating backlinks from all over the web that point back to the main index of the site. It is not uncommon to see links from only one to five other websites, if they are properly crafted. Even this isn’t necessarily a sign of a successful backlink campaign. If a site has the ability to create a backlink for itself, then it is reasonable to assume that it has the ability to generate more backlinks.
The main goal of SEO is to position a site in the search engines so that it is likely to show up for a particular set of keywords when someone searches for those keywords. SEO experts are always tweaking their strategies in order to make sure that they are achieving their goals. However, it is important to keep in mind that changes to the ranking factors are only made every so often. This means that a site owner who are consistently getting a high number of clicks, but whose search engine optimization is not changing, is likely to continue to receive those clicks.
