Off-Page SEO Factors to Consider

Off-Page SEO Factors to Consider

When most people hear about SEO they immediately start imagining some major Off-Page SEO strategies that are so complex and involved that no one can possible do them. In fact, that’s completely true! Off-Page SEO encompasses any efforts taken to increase a site’s search engine rankings outside of the site. Link building is obviously part of that, but beyond that it really goes far beyond that. Off-Page SEO is something that you literally have total and absolute control over, while that’s not necessarily the case with on-page SEO.

Let’s look at an example of what I mean. Say you want to rank for a certain keyword phrase in Google but you’ve got terrible content or you’re unable to optimise your site correctly for that particular keyword. The only way you could really benefit from increased traffic from Search Engine Results is to improve your backlinking profile. Now, that’s where many people lose out. They look for some magical backlink strategy that will catapult them to the top of the search engine results, and they’re disappointed when they find out there aren’t any great off-page factors that could boost their pagerank.

Some people believe that submission of links directly to directory listings will dramatically boost their web traffic. This is totally false, because very few high authority business directories accept submissions from websites such as yours. There are plenty of directories that do, however, such as DMOZ, which is the top directory in the UK, but we already told you that improving your backlinking profile is a much more effective off-page SEO strategy. Submitting links indirectly to high authority websites that receive a lot of direct traffic, as in the case of business directories, is much more effective.

A lot of people use off-page SEO techniques to market their websites. For example, submitting articles to article directories and giving away free information to bloggers are both good examples of this. These techniques are completely valid and work, but to be truly effective you need to think much more creatively about how you use these techniques. Off-page techniques are really just another part of your overall SEO strategy. For example, you wouldn’t submit an article to just any old blog, but you wouldn’t just submit it to any old directory either.

There are several other aspects of off-page SEO that you need to work on, such as getting in touch with search engines through social networking, submitting your own site to Alexa’s rankings, submitting your site to Google’s supplemental indexing tool, and so on. All of these things will improve your rankings with Google and other search engines, but they’re not the most important aspects of SEO to consider. Instead, you should work on making your pages much better for human viewers and for Search Engine bots.

The first thing you need to consider when it comes to off-page factors is how many backlinks you have. Google uses a special algorithm to determine rankings, and if you have a lot of links coming from related sites then you will generally do better at the top. However, the quality of your backlinks can matter as well. One way to get high quality backlinks is to build up your own list of blog mailing lists. This can be done through RSS feeds, through blog comments and forum postings, and so on.

Link building is important for off-page seo, but in particular to boost your rankings on Google. You want to be able to get a lot of one-way links pointing to your site, and this is where having a large number of inbound links can be very useful. Link building can also help with your off-page seo efforts, because if Google likes what they see from your site then they will more than likely rank you higher. If you are focusing mainly on an internal linking campaign, then the value of link building will be a little harder to quantify. However, it is generally thought that internal link building is much more valuable to rankings than external link building, as internal links are a natural process of ranking.

It is also important to remember that your web pages will generally be ranked according to how much user traffic you are getting. So it is extremely important that you continue to attract regular organic user traffic. However, this is also something that are highly dependent on the quality of your site, the quality of the links you have included, and so forth. A regular local organic seo strategy which is built up over time will gradually help your web site to rise through the ranks, just as a regular local seo strategy built up over time will help your ranking in the SERPs.
